Trudie Olsen-Curtis

inspires you to step on to the dance floor with confidence, joy and a heightened sense of self-awareness and poise. Her experience as a classroom teacher, coupled with years of professional ballroom training and dancing has given Trudie the capacity to guide you with patience, compassion and humor towards a high level of expertise and comfort.

Trudie sees dance as a healthy, fun and safe way to build a community of new friends, as well as an avenue for creating and maintaining intimacy with your life partner. Trudie received her dance training from David Alvarez, Leslie Sack and Derrick Curtis at Santa Barbara Dance Center.

In addition to performing for BASSH at the Lobero Theater for the past 14 years, Trudie offers instruction and performance for private and corporate parties, weddings, private and group lessons.

Trudie has also developed a K-6th grade rhythm and movement program at local elementary schools, which includes drumming, circle, line and partnered dances inspiring individual creative expression, team work and mutual respect.  

Derrick Curtis

brings his expertise as a recreational therapist and physical education specialist to his instruction in ballroom dance. He has been dancing and teaching for 22 years, and has worked with youth, teens and adults. Derrick has taught for Santa Barbara City College ballroom dance program, Santa Barbara City College Adult Education program and directs dance programs at many public and private schools in Santa Barbara.

Derrick serves on the board of directors for the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance and is the program director for the alliance's dance showcase "BASSH".

Derrick is a charismatic entertainer and specializes in motivational party dances. He teaches private and group lessons at Santa Barbara Dance Center, and is available to perform and teach at private or corporate parties and weddings.
